Get Involved

We are excited about expanding the ELMI community. There are plenty of ways for people both internal and external to Cornell to get involved in our basic science, technology transition, and educational mission.

Faculty Affiliate

The ELMI is always open to new faculty members. As an ELMI faculty member, you will be part of our interdisciplinary community. This includes participating in our monthly seminars, co-advising our postdoctoral fellows, and accessing our shared lab space. Faculty membership in ELMI lasts 5-years and is renewable. To apply, please submit a 1-page statement of interest and a CV to elmi-admin-L@cornell.edu.

Students

Students can get involved by taking our courses, joining our journal club, and working with our faculty members on an ELMI research project. Sign up to get notifications about the journal club by adding yourself to elmi-journalclub-L@cornell.edu. Learn More.

Postdocs

Our ELMI postdoctoral fellowship positions are currently filled. We do however welcome applicants to be supported on funded research and independent fellowships. Cornell University has several competitive fellowship programs (e.g. CURES, Atkinson) that we will support applications to as well.

Cornell Students

Current Cornell undergraduate, MEng, and MPS students looking to get involved in ELMI research or design projects can email member faculty directly or contact the ELMI director, Prof. Meredith Silberstein, with their resume and a brief description of their research interests. She will help to connect them with a good fit team and project.

Current and admitted Cornell PhD and MS students are also encouraged to contact either member faculty or the ELMI director with their CV, degree program, and brief description of their research interests. Students will need to follow the advisor matching policy and timeline of their graduate field

Prospective PhD and MS students must apply for admission to a graduate field. ELMI faculty span many graduate fields including applied math, architecture, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, government, materials science, mechanical engineering, theoretical and applied mechanics, and plant biology.
